Vintage leather, vegetable tanning

Vintage leather is leather that has stood the test of time, without losing any of its charm - quite the opposite, in fact! It has a used look, thanks to a vegetable tanning process that respects the skin and the environment. To be considered vintage, the leather must be at least twenty years old. Because this particular look has been so successful, Italian workshops have been able to reproduce the process to offer you a variety of new models with the charm of yesteryear. The plant pigments and tannins used are varied, ranging from wood and bark to berries, leaves and roots. The colours are sublimated and give the leather a velvety feel and great suppleness, characteristics inherent in the tanning process used.

Vintage leathers

Vintage leather is, as its name suggests, old leather. Over the years, the leather develops a patina and must be between 20 and 100 years old to be considered vintage. As this type of leather has come back into fashion in recent years, leather goods workshops are seeking to reproduce the characteristics of vintage leather on new leather. To do this, specific products such as dyes or brushes are applied to the hide to give it that much-desired look. At OH MY BAG, we offer you a selection of vintage leathers. Marks and scars on the leather are therefore normal!

Woven leathers

Braided leather is leather that has been worked by hand for many years in our Italian workshops. To do this, leatherworkers cut long strips of leather of different sizes, which are then joined together to create a plait. This Italian technique is called "intrecciato". The most common leather weave is diagonal, which catches the light and highlights all the aspects of the leather. Other models are braided and topstitched vertically and horizontally with larger strips of leather, giving the bag and the leatherwork a completely different look. The braiding techniques are infinite, and you can find patterns such as waves on certain models of women's bags. All in all, it's a very creative technique!

Metallic leathers

Metallic, iridescent, lamé, shiny or 'glitter' leather is leather covered with a varnish or pearlescent pigments that give it that much-appreciated shiny look. A worthy heir to the 60s, it was given pride of place by Dior in particular. The glossy finish is making its way onto the catwalk, whatever the season! It's sure to add energy and pep to all your outfits.
